Rabbi Menahem Shemuel Halevy, also known as Mollah Menahem and Monsieur Menahem was born in Hamadan, Persia, in 1884 to a respected rabbinical family of 10 generations.
He passed his childhood and youth in Hamadan, and returned to Biblical Zion, the Promised Land, in 1923. (He is my maternal grandfather).
He was sent by Israel as an ambassador to many countries - Burma, India, Egypt, Sidon, Iraq, and many more-- with recommendations from HaMizrachi, Bnei Brith, Vaad HaSephardim, Keren-HaYesod,--Chief Rabbis of Israel Yitzchak Herzog, Jacob Meyer, Rishon LeZion. I have many original documents and newspaper clips about his ambassadorship to many countries on behalf of Israel—one with the nephew of Weitzman—his meeting with Gandhi. I have his correspondence with The Zionist Organization in London 1923, to get help for the Jews of Iran suffering under the Shi’ia Islam in Iran. He has some publications printed in Israel, and he has a manuscript that I transcribed in Hebrew, found in Ben-Zvi Library Jerusalem Israel.
I can trace his genealogy to his grandfather and his father, both Rabbis in Iran.
